Enrichment

Sports Academy

At Harrow International School Appi Japan, our Academy programme is not an optional enrichment – it is a fundamental pillar of our holistic education. Rooted in the distinctive three-season landscape of Appi Kogen, our approach to physical development is structured, immersive, and non-negotiable for every student.

Across Golden Season (August – December) and Green Season (May – June), Academy runs six days a week; during White Season (January – April), it operates seven days a week.

Every student trains a minimum of three times per fortnight, ensuring consistent progression, resilience, and discipline. From Tennis and Golf to Mountain Biking, Trail Running, and our signature Alpine Academy in winter, each discipline is intentionally aligned to the rhythm of the seasons, allowing students to build skill, confidence, and character through sustained, purposeful practice in an exceptional natural environment.

During the White Season (January to April), all students transition to the Alpine Academy, specialising in skiing or snowboarding. The programme caters to all abilities, offering pathways from gate race training to freestyle snow park experiences for advanced athletes, providing an exceptional winter sports education in the pristine Appi-Kogen mountains.

Tennis Academy

The Tennis Academy develops all aspects of tennis, from fundamental techniques to match-play tactics. Students train on the campus courts or at the Appi-Kogen Tennis Club, progressing through a structured curriculum that enhances technical skills, strategy, and confidence on court.

Golf Academy

Students in the Golf Academy receive comprehensive coaching to refine their swing, tactical decision-making, and course management. Training takes place at the stunning 36-hole Appi-Kogen Golf Course and on the on-site golf simulator, offering opportunities for both beginners and advanced golfers to build skill and confidence.

Mountain Biking Academy

The Mountain Biking Academy focuses on bike handling, trail skills, maintenance, and responsible riding. Students develop endurance, confidence, and risk-management skills through guided rides, skills drills, and challenging local trails, fostering a deep appreciation for outdoor adventure.

Trail Running Academy

Trail Running Academy students learn essential running techniques, trail navigation, and endurance training. The curriculum emphasises safety, risk management, and trail etiquette, while guided runs and trail challenges build stamina, confidence, and a love of outdoor exploration.

Through the Academy programme, students develop resilience, discipline, and a passion for lifelong physical activity, complementing academic and boarding life while fostering confidence and achievement both on and off the field.
