For decades, a truly world-class British boarding education set against dramatic mountains and immersed in a distinctive local culture has been the preserve of a handful of storied Swiss institutions. Today, that same proposition exists in Japan.
Harrow International School Appi Japan brings the full British curriculum and pastoral tradition of the AISL Harrow group to Iwate Prefecture, one of Japan’s most striking natural settings. Here, the rigour and character-building ethos of British boarding meets the rhythm of Japanese life: the discipline and craftsmanship of local culture, the quiet respect embedded in daily interactions, and a mountain environment that shifts dramatically through four distinct seasons, from snow-laden winters perfect for skiing to lush, green summers.
Students don’t simply study in Japan; they are shaped by it, developing an appreciation for precision, community, and nature alongside the confidence and breadth of a Harrow education. It is this fusion of British structure with Japanese sensibility that is proving to be a genuinely new model for international boarding, one no longer confined to the Alps.
Join us in Hong Kong to hear directly from Charlotte Resuggan, Harrow Appi’s Director of Boarding, about what makes this environment so distinctive for students and families.
